Health Room Visit
Students are asked to complete a health room slip stating their complaint.
Nursing assessment is made of the student's condition including general observation, vital signs and first aid as needed.
Based on the assessment and observation, the student may be allowed to rest, given appropriate OTC medication, sent back to class or excluded from school.
The school nurse CANNOT diagnose. If needed, a referral to the student's physician will be made.
A student will be sent home from school if he/she has:
- A temperature of 100 degrees or higher. The student should not return to school until they have been fever free for 24 hours
- Vomiting or diarrhea. The student must be free of symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school
- Suspected contagious disease ( lice, chicken pox, impetigo)
- A serious injury or illness requiring medical attention
- A rash/skin eruption of unknown origin (per nurse discretion)
Students are encouraged to stay in school when possible. Our goal is to keep students in class, on task and ready to learn
Parents are not routinely notified of students visits to the health room for minor issues. (Headache, stomachache, cramps, abrasions)
