2021-2022
(Here we go! I can't wait to see what we will do this year! Sadly, Peace Love Chalk was cancelled.)
Bloomsburg Children's Museum 6th Annual Regional Juried Art Show
23 students from Miss Flowers’ Visual Art Studios in the Arts & Humanities Academy recently competed against several other high schools in the Bloomsburg Children’s Museum 6th Annual Regional Juried Art Show and Exhibition. Our students received more awards than any other school, and the results are as follows: Senior Felicia Cera 2nd Place Overall Show winner with her mixed Media piece, and Best Digital piece, Best Collection of Works to Junior Riley Sartori, Best Acrylic Painting to sophomore Lydia Sutton, and Best Charcoal to Senior Helenne Banks. All 31 pieces entered will be on display to the public until mid April. Congratulations students!
PA Renaissance Faire Small-Scale Public Advertising Competition
This year my Honors Visual Art Studios 3 & 4 entries completely swept the high school category in this post-trip competition. Students had a different challenge of scale and fontwork than the Artr Competition that occurs at the Faire earlier in the year with the large posters. All winners, their families, and their art teacher will enjoy a free late-summer day at the Faire where the winners will be honored and given prizes at a special private picnic (complete with a knighting by the queen!)
PA Renaissance Faire Advertising Poster Competition
Students needed to choose from 1 of 4 themes, include the name of the Faire, and have an original slogan with historically-appropriate font and subject matter. Only 1 entry from each grade may travel with us to be entered that day, and again this year we received awards for all of our entries! 1st Place Grades 9/10: Arlenis Dela Cruz, 2nd Place Grades 9/10: Ariah Upperman, 1st Place Grades 11/12: Laci Curvey, 2nd Place Grades 11/12: Claifery Castillo

Hazleton Art League's Art Youth Expo
In June the Art League held their wonderful Art Youth Expo of student artwork from all over the area. This year students really brought their A-game and the competition was very competitive. But we still did very well with senior Felicia Cera having a tie for 1st place in the huge "Works on Paper" division with...herself! Best of Show went to our one of my freshmen Chloe Zellin! Over 45 of my student's work was on exhibit for a month at the lovely new gallery.

Hazleton Art League's "Peace, Love, Chalk" Competition
Covid can't hold us back from another year of dominating this contest! On Saturday, September 12th, 6 current students and 4 former students of mine participated in the Hazleton Art League’s “Peace Love Chalk” art contest. For 5 hours these students worked on an original, large chalk pastel drawing (masked and socially-distanced) while the public watched. These creations were then judged by professional artists. In the 17 and under division, Skye Burke won 1st Place (an iPad), Seyona McKittrick won 2nd Place ($200 in art supplies), Kaylee Toribio won 3rd Place ($100 in art supplies), and Karla Consuegra won Honorable Mention ($50). In the very challenging adult division alumnus Mariluz Rodriguez won 3rd Place ($250).
New Mural on the Hazleton Integration Project
The Hazleton Integration Project recently unveiled a mural on the exterior of the building. The sole assistant to the professional muralist was 10th grade student Dylan Riofrio-Pine. The mural shows a large, colorful representation of the word LOVE.
Hazleton Art League's Harvest Dream Invitational Professional Art Show
For the entire month of October, two graduates of my Visual Art Studio participated in the Harvest Dream Invitational, which was the first major art exhibit at the beautiful Hayden Arts Center on Broad Street that now houses the Hazleton Art League. Acacia Bermudez and Mariluz Rodriguez (who helped create the mural in the high school) became the youngest ever to be accepted into an adult professional regional art exhibit in Hazleton. Both are currently junior Art majors at Kutztown University.
National Congressional Art Competition
This year, we hit the absolute top of a major national art competition! Kaylee Toribio won first prize for her charcoal drawing! Her art will be on display for a year in the Cannon Tunnel of our Nation's Capitol in D.C.!!!! Thousands of members of the public, as well as all D.C. politcians will walk past Kaylee's art throughout the year!
2019-2020

Post-Competitions for the PA Renaissance Faire
* In the 2nd half of the competitions for the PA Renaissance Faire, students created smaller advertisements with different designs and extra fontwork. Our Honors Visual Arts Studio was awarded every place except 3rd out of dozens of participating regional high schools! Their art will be used in official advertisements for the Faire next season, and the students, their families, and I will enjoy a special free day at the Faire in the spring! Grand Prize winner: Laura Blanco, 1st Place: Alyssa Leonard, 2nd Place: Jenna Rossel, and Honorable Mention: Jose Cuello. Congratulations to everyone!
Laura Blanco, Grade 12
Winners (and their teacher!) and their families were treated to not only a free day at the faire this summer, but we also enjoyed a private picnic with delicious food, minstrels, and a visit from the queen where our winners were knighted! The students were also given a water bottle and a copy of the professional printed advertisement that held their artrwork!
